"Printed canvas, stretched on ethically sourced wooden frame."
Fragile Wetland by Sue Schlabach.
Sue Schlabach lives and works in rural Vermont, where she and her family are renovating an old brick house. With a love for creating, Sue finds joy in making art, food, gardens, photographs, and textiles. Although she studied painting and photography in the late 1980s, she struggled to pursue her art in her twenties. A transformative visit to Charleston, the English country home of painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, ignited her passion. The simplicity and urgency of the painted house and its furnishings inspired her to stop hesitating and start creating.
Sue picked up a paintbrush and a camera and hasn’t looked back since. The arrival of her daughter further fueled her artistic journey. “Children make art without a critical filter,” she says, “and watching that helped me turn off the critic and get to work.” Sue now creates art using ink, paint, paper, wood, old papers, and canvas, embracing the freedom and creativity that comes with each medium.
